Temperament
Dogs Have Distinct Temperaments, Just Like Us
Our Golden Retriever puppies have a balanced temperament due to meticulous breeding, training, and socialization. Raised in our home, they undergo daily socialization and gentle handling, excelling in training and adapting seamlessly to various activities. Renowned for their loyalty, easy-going nature, and empathy, these puppies are perfect companions for families or individuals. Additionally, they serve effectively as therapy and support dogs, offering comfort to those in need.
People-Friendly Golden Retrievers
Our Golden Retrievers are exceptionally friendly and love everyone they meet. They shower affection on people with their gentle nature and expect lots of belly rubs in return. Our puppies are raised by a dedicated team, ensuring they are exposed to different people and environments to develop strong socialization skills. They are very kid-friendly, gentle with children, and sturdy enough to handle enthusiastic pats and hugs. This makes them ideal as therapy, service, companion, and facility dogs.
Dog-Friendly Golden Retrievers
Friendliness towards other dogs is just as important as friendliness towards humans. Some dogs may not get along with other dogs despite being sweet with people. Our puppies are given ample opportunities to play and socialize with their littermates and other dogs, ensuring they develop good canine social skills. We assess their socialization progress weekly, addressing any aggressive behaviors early on.
Temperament Matching
It is crucial to find a dog that matches the temperament of your family. Our Golden Retrievers can vary in sensitivity, with some being highly sensitive and others more easygoing. They all share a strong desire to please their people. We emphasize the importance of choosing a puppy based on temperament rather than color or gender, as a well-matched puppy will ensure a harmonious and joyful relationship. Low-sensitivity dogs, often described as easygoing, tolerant, and resilient, can handle noisy households and active lifestyles better, while high-sensitivity dogs may require a quieter environment and gentle handling.
Your Lifestyle and Your Puppy
If you have young kids, frequently host gatherings, or lead a busy life, a low-sensitivity dog might be the best match for you. However, if you prefer a more sensitive and attentive companion, a high-sensitivity dog could be a great fit. We can identify which puppies have low or high sensitivity early on, helping you choose the right fit for your family. Our philosophy is that the right temperament is key to a successful match between our puppies and their new families.
The Perfect Year-Round Companion
Golden Retrievers LOVE to be with their families and thrive on companionship. They may become anxious or exhibit destructive behaviors if left alone for long periods. They are most content when a family member is home during the day or if they can join you at work. If they need to be home alone, returning at lunchtime to let them out and provide some attention can help. Leaving the TV or radio on can also alleviate their anxiety.
Golden Retrievers have a water-repellent double coat that allows them to tolerate both cold and warm weather. While they enjoy cold weather, they should be kept indoors on hot or humid days to prevent overheating. Care should be taken when exercising them in the heat. They are known for their love of swimming and retrieving, and though they are agile, they may tire relatively quickly.
Developmental Stages in Golden Retriever Puppies
Your Golden Retriever puppy will go through various stages of development as they grow. It’s common for new puppy owners to be surprised or concerned by their puppy’s behavior during these stages. Understanding the developmental phases can help you guide your puppy and address any challenges that arise.
The training process typically begins with the mother dog and then transitions to you. It’s crucial to train your puppy to become a well-adjusted member of your family. We highly recommend enrolling your puppy in our training program to ensure they receive the foundational training they need for a happy and fulfilling life with you.
