BLOCK 1 – WEEK 1-4
First Steps to Obedience – $3,430
Our Puppy Obedience Foundation program is more than just training, it’s about building trust, understanding, and a lifelong bond from day one. The first four weeks of our program set the essential for your puppy’s future, ensuring that both you and your puppy are equipped for a smooth transition into family life and long-term success in training.
BLOCK 1 Outline:
Setting the Foundation & Building Focus
In these first two weeks, we focus on establishing the essential Puppy Obedience Foundation by creating consistent routines and introducing key obedience commands. This phase is designed to help your puppy feel secure in their new environment, develop good habits, and begin learning how to respond to basic commands. Socialization is also introduced gradually to ensure your puppy feels confident and comfortable around family members, new people, and everyday household situations.
As we move into Weeks 3 and 4, the focus shifts toward reinforcing these foundational skills and improving your puppy’s ability to maintain focus under more complex and distracting conditions. These weeks build on the initial training, solidifying core behaviors while preparing your puppy for future, more advance training blocks.
Training Focus & Commands:
Throughout the four weeks, your puppy will be introduced to essential obedience commands, and as a result, they will progressing in difficulty and complexity:
Weeks 1-2: In the first two weeks, we begin building key obedience skills that your puppy will rely on throughout their training. Your puppy will learn to respond to their name and focus during training sessions. We introduce essential markers like “Nope,” “Good,” and “Okay,” along with gentle collar and leash training. By the end of Week 2, your puppy will have been introduced to core commands such as “SIT,” “DOWN,” “COME,” and “LEAVE IT.” Treats and luring techniques are used to encourage responsiveness, ensuring a solid foundation for more advanced training in the weeks ahead.
Weeks 3-4: During Weeks 3 and 4, we reinforce the commands introduced earlier while increasing the level of difficulty. Your puppy will practice “SIT,” “DOWN,” “COME,” and “LEAVE IT” with added distractions, longer durations, and greater distances. In addition, we introduce new commands like “SAY HI” and “TOUCH” to encourage positive social interactions. This phase ensures that your puppy’s focus and obedience improve, even in more challenging environments, preparing them for future stages of training.
Crate Training
Crate training is emphasized to build calmness and security:
Weeks 1-2: The goal is for your puppy to spend 5-7 hours in the crate at night, staying calm, quiet, and accident-free. Naps are also structured for minimal fussing and barking.
Weeks 3-4: Continued emphasis on quiet crate time overnight and calmness during naps, with further reinforcement of crate training habits.
House Training
House training is a crucial part of your puppy’s development, and we stay ahead of their needs to set them up for success.
Weeks 1-2: Accident prevention is the main focus during the first two weeks. We establish a consistent routine with frequent potty breaks to help your puppy learn when and where to go. By anticipating their potty needs, we minimize accidents and begin laying the foundation for a reliable house training schedule. This period is all about building consistency and creating positive associations with appropriate potty behavior.
Weeks 3-4: As your puppy progresses, house training becomes more advanced. During Weeks 3 and 4, your puppy will start signaling when they need to go outside, indicating increased control over their potty habits. With fewer accidents and a more predictable schedule, the focus shifts to reinforcing the established routine and ensuring that your puppy can follow it reliably in different environments.
Personality & Temperament
We closely monitor your puppy’s personality and temperament throughout training to ensure they are adjusting well and thriving in their new environment.
Weeks 1-2: During the first two weeks, we focus on observing how your puppy adapts to new commands and their overall learning style. We assess their temperament and social interactions, ensuring that they are comfortable with household items like stairs, TVs, and vacuums. This helps your puppy become more accustomed to everyday life while also determining their suitability for your family environment.
Weeks 3-4: As training progresses, we continue to evaluate your puppy’s adaptability and temperament. With increased socialization and exposure to more complex environments, we assess how well your puppy handles new challenges and whether their behavior aligns with the needs of your family. This ensures that by the end of Week 4, your puppy is confident, well-adjusted, and a great fit for your home.
Leash Walking
Leash training becomes more structured and reinforced as the weeks progress:
Weeks 1-2: Introduction to wearing a collar and leash, with early focus on walking calmly beside you.
Weeks 3-4: Leash walking is reinforced with distractions and increased control, focusing on eliminating pulling and maintaining focus in more active environments.
Socialization & Confidence Building
Socialization is an essential part of building a confident, well-adjusted puppy:
Weeks 1-2: Early exposure to household sounds, family members, and pets helps your puppy adapt to everyday life.
Weeks 3-4: Socialization expands to include more diverse environments, people, and pets. The puppy practices staying calm in new, distracting situations.
Personality & Temperament
Your puppy’s behavior and temperament are monitored throughout the program to ensure successful progress:
Weeks 1-2: We assess how the puppy adapts to new environments and commands, tailoring the training to their specific temperament.
Weeks 3-4: Continued assessment as the puppy handles more complex challenges, ensuring their personality fits well within your family dynamic.
Behavior & Manners
We focus on shaping good behavior and reinforcing manners:
Weeks 1-2: Addressing common puppy behaviors like jumping, mouthing, and chewing, with an emphasis on positive reinforcement.
Weeks 3-4: Further refinement of behaviors, focusing on polite interactions with both people and pets, especially in more challenging environments.
Grooming & Familiarization
We introduce grooming routines and reinforce familiarization with handling and equipment:
Weeks 1-2: Introduction to grooming activities like brushing, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and teeth brushing. Puppies are also introduced to wearing a collar and leash.
Weeks 3-4: Continued reinforcement of grooming habits and familiarization with handling, ensuring the puppy is comfortable with regular grooming and being walked on a leash.
